Kopis @ airfield Lesce-Bled

Sports airport in Lesce-Bled is home of skydiving in Slovenia. Long tradition has been passed on through generations and Slovenians are very proud of their local skydivers; for years they are in the top of World ranks.
Kopi bros spent a day on the airfield this Saturday. Anže and his family gave Gašper a present for his 18th birthday – a tandem dive from 4.000m (13.000 ft). This was Gašper’s second dive after twelve years, “I don’t know why, but I have no fear what so ever, I can barely wait”, Gašper said going into airplane. After the jump he was full of adrenalin, “this is a rush! It is great!”
Anže was smiling, “His jump got my mind going too. I hope I will find time, I want to tray it too someday.”

Kopitars back on ice

Anže & his younger brother Gašper moved to the third phase of pre-season training program. Under guidance of their father Matjaž they have moved into second week of on-ice trainings.
“It is a great feeling to be back on-ice. After the season we have had practically no off-time and we immediately started with base off-ice workout. Both of us, Gašper and I, know that we need to improve each season and we have had no lack of motivation going into athletics & fitness program this off-season. We completed the main part of off-ice trainings, but training on ice is something totally different and we were all waiting for it.”
Kopitars train together with few of Slovenia’s National Team players that are signed with foreign teams across Europe. For the time being they are located in city of Bled; their trainings are a magnet for young players that have summer camps in Bled and the youngsters are happy to see their role-models working out.

The season is over

The Los Angeles Kings had only one thing in mind before game 6 in a sold out Staples center. Game 7 in Vancouver. Unfortunetly it did not go everithing by a plan. In the first period they created couple of nice chances, but Luongo stopped all the pucks, later on Frolov scored his first of the series to gave Kings the lead. In the second period the Canucks came back to tie the game, but than Doughty scored on a nice pass by Kopitar. After 40 minutes the Kings were leading 2:1. In the third period the Canucks once again came out strong and scored three goals. They won the game and series with a 4:2 result. The Los Angeles kings hawe a young team and the future looks really bright for them. In LA, Slovenia and all over the world the fans are hardly awaiting the next season. Thank You Kings!

Canucks lead series 3:2

It was one of those games for the Kings that they have to forget as soon as possible. After first 20 minutes of the game the score was 2:1 in favor of the Canucks, in the second period Vancouver scored two more goals and the kings replaced Quick with Ersberg. He faced 4 shots and gave up 2 goals, so Quick was back in the net. He got one more goal and the game ended with a 7:2 win for the Canucks. The Kings are now in a bad position, they have to win game 6 in the Staples center on sunday and than eventualy win game 7 in the Vancouver to go trough.

Series tied again

Vancouver Canucks won game 4 infront of a soldout crowd in Staples Center. Series is now tied at 2:2. The Kings were leading 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in the game but did not win the game. First goal of the game was scored by Doughty on a Kings PP at the 13.26 mark of the firs 20 minutes. In the second period Ehrhoff scored on a PP for the Canucks, two minutes later Brown scored for LA. Demitra tied the game later on in the period and Anze Kopitar gave Kings the lead on a 4:4 game less than 3 minutes before the end of the second period. In the last period the Canucks came out strong, outshot their oponents 17-8. Sedin brothers were a key factor. First Daniel made a nice pass to Samuelsson who redirected the puck behind Quicks back. Than they both assisted on a goal by Salo. Simmond tied the game for the Kings, just a minute later. Henrik Sedin scored three mnutes before the regulation to gave Canucks the lead. The Kings pulled out Quick and tryed with an ekstra attacker, but Kesler scored on an empty net. Final result Kings 4, Canucks 6. The next game is on Friday in Vancouver.

Kings take a 2-1 lead in the series

In nearly eight years count, the Kings made their first Stanley Cup Playoff game at Staples Center. Infront of a soldout crowd of more than 18200 people they won against the Vancouver Canucks with 5:3. Drew Doughty had a goal and three assists, Jack Johnson had three assists and Slovak Michal handzus scored twice and added an assist. in the third minute Raymond scored for the Canucks, but than LA scored three goals with the man advantage and Richardson added one and made it 4:1 after 33 minutes of the game. Samuelsson scored in the 15th minute of the second period and the result after 40 minutes of playing time was 4:2. The Canucks played strong in the third period and outshot the Kings 10-5, D. Sedin scored to make it 4:3 but than Ryan Smyth beat Raycroft who replaced Luongo after the fourt goal and the final result... Kings 5, Canucks 3. The LA Kings lead the series 2:1, the next game is tomorrow.

Anze scores in OT - SERIES TIED

The second game of the series did not start well for the Kings, they were two goals behind after first period. Bernier and Samuelsson scored for the Canucks. In the second period Kings scored twice, Modin at halfway trough the second period and just 35 second later, Simmonds on a 3 on 1 rush led by Kopitar. The game was tied and tensed going into third period. Both teams were playing hard and the Kings had 11 shots on goal, the canucks just five, there were no goals and the game vent into OT.
The winner was setup by a smart play by defenseman Rob Scuderi, who caught the Canucks in a change and sent the puck toward their bench. The puck hit defenseman Kevin Bieksa, resulting in a too many men on the ice call. Anze Kopitar scored at 7.28 into the OT, he picked up the rebound of his own blocked shot in the right circle and banked a shot that went off goaltender Roberto Luongo's pad, hit the knob of his stick and trickled across the goal line. The series now goes to Los Angeles.

Series: LAK 0 - VAN 1

Game started with extreme Canucks offensive and first minutes were in Canucks domain. Kings did pick up their game and the game started to get physical and did not allow any mistakes from any team.
Within second period we could see how referees started limiting physical game and we witness lots of penalties. First ones to score were Kings (Stoll PPG), Canucks tied quickly and gained the lead. Modin scored another PPG for Kings and period ended 2-2.
In last period of the game both teams played a bit on heels, Kings played positional game and were successful on protecting their net.
As game went into OT, game opened and we could see a great OT, full of action. Kings almost scored, but Luongo stopped the puck right at the goal line. Few minutes later Samuelsson's shot ended the OT and Canucks took a lead in the series.

About hockey beard

Sports World knows that hockey players (and of course other athletes as well) do not shave during post season. Where did it all start?
According to the historians that follow these things, it all started in year 1980. NHL team New York Islanders decided not to shave until end of their playoffs. For luck! They went all the way and in 1980 long bearded men hoisted the Cup.
Instantly hockey teams started growing beards for the time of playoffs and tradition moved from hockey world to basketball, baseball, football, soccer, tennis. Even juniors wanted to be a part of tradition. Wit lack of facial hair they started re-coloring their hair and in last ten years we can also see many irocezas and other crazy haircuts.
And what are the rules for playoff beard? As team enters playoffs, you are not to shave your beard until the day you finish your season (so you either lose the series or you hoist it). However, there is a conditional shave. If a team loses a game in the series player can shave in order to change teams luck. Jim Dowd started even something more unique. After each loss, he made just one cut. The cuts of the beard should represent the scars made by each loss.

Very quickly we may see that Kings are the statistic underdogs in the face-off. But there is one part of statistics that might be a bit more interesting. Did you know that none of the upper seeded teams in Western Conference progressed into round last year? So we have a chance.
In any case; Leaving all stats behind, post season is a new story, where every game has it's own chapter. We firmly believe that we are all counting down minutes to 1st game of 1st round of 1st playoff berth after eight years where Kings will start post season and we all know Slovenians are counting down minutes where first Slovenian hockey player in the history of the game will play in the post season of NHL. Kopi & Kings; We are out here and we will hold our ground for all of you! You can & you will do it!

Kings lost in shootouts

Edmonton Oilers lead all throughout the game, eventhough the Kings outshot them with over 50 shots in the game. In the last ten minutes the Kings finaly scored and it seemed that we will witness another Miracle of the Kings. With Handzus tiying it 3-3, teams went into sudden death overtime that ended without a winner. In the shootouts Oilers topped Kings and took away one point from them. Anze Kopitar had 22.22 ice time, 4 shots on goal and one assist on a goal by Brown. He has now 81 points in 81 games.

Kings stop at 101 points

Last game of the regular season took Kings to Colorado. LA started off slow, but pickedup during the pase of the game. Five minutes before the end buzzer Stoll redirected a shot from Green and took Kings into OT. With 6th consequtive goal in his last six game Browny took the victory back home to LA. Kings finished season with 101 points and that is third most in franchise history.

Kings get a point against Coyotes

Possible playoff pair, Coyotes and Kings, have paired up in Los Angeles' Staples Center. Sold out Staples has seen a taste of the atmosphere that is to come in upcoming weeks. Fans, pumped-up with playoff spot after many years, has seen a fast, dynamic game, a hard and fast two-way game.
Yet again teams went into overtime and shootouts, just another proof how close the teams are in Western Conference this year.
Unfortunately Coyotes scored a game winner in SO, but important one point stayed in Staples.

Kings roast Ducks in seasons last

The game did not star well for the Kings as they were down 4:1 after 32 minutes of the game. Then they came back strong and tied the game 4-4 with 1:09 remaining in the third period, with Ersberg skating to the bench for an extra attacker. Williams got the puck in the Ducks' zone along the left boards, and fed a perfect centering pass to Handzus, who scored from close range. The Kings outshot the Ducks 41-21. There were no goals in the OT. In the SO Johnson and Kopitar scored for the Kings. The Kings are now in the sixt place in the Westeren conference, just a point behind the Predators and also just a point ahead of the Red Wings. Anze Kopitar earned a point, with his 45ith assist of the season and scored in the SO.

On the Easter Sunday, 5th of April, 2010, Easter Bunny brought the playoff ticket to our team we all love and support!!! With Calgary's loss against Chicago Kings clinched their playoff spot in the Western Conference four games before the end of the regular season.

Kings burned by Koivu

Kings got a point out of tonights' matchup against Anaheim. LA got in front with a goal of Jack Johnson and they were holding the lead all the way up to last 90 seconds.
Kings played last two minutes short handed and they pulled out the goalie and it payed of for them. Saku Koivu scored just before at the end of the game.
Game has been decided in the shootouts, where Saku Koivu scored another one for the Ducks.
This was a very important point for Kings, keeping their difference from the Flames on six points.

Congratulation Kopi!!! 78 & counting

In the last game against Vancouver Anže attributed a goal and an assist to 8-3 victory. With this two points he topped his 2007/2008 season record of 77 points to 78 and counting. In his NHL career, Kopi so far played in 312 games, scored 112 times, has 168 assists and total of 280 points.

Kings win against rival Canucks 8-3

The Kings had been 0-4-1 against the Canucks in their last five meetings, and had scored only one goal in each of their three meetings against Vancouver this season. But this time it was different. The Kings scored 8 goals, Dustin Brown recorded his second career hat trick and added also an assist. 7 different players had at least two points in the game. Starting goalie was Jonathan Bernier who made 27 saves and won his third game with the Kings this seaon. The Los Angeles Kings are still on the seventh place in the Western conference, just a point behind Detroit Red Wings. Anze Kopitar had a goal and assist and has now (career high) 78 points

Kings are back on track

The kings finally won against the Predators from Nashville. Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves for his first shutout in his NHL career. In the first period the kings outshot the Predators 18-8, while Predators outshot the kings 15-4 in the second period. Both periods were scoreless.
Parse, coming off a two-goal game against Minnesota last night, broke the scoreless tie 7:50 into the third period. The Kings than took a 2:0 lead with 2:01 remaining on a 4:4 goal. O’Donnell with his third of the season. Anze Kopitar had 18.31. minutes of ice teime, 8 shots on goal and won 83 percent of the faceoffs. The Los Angeles Kings are now 7th in the Western conference and hold a seven-point lead over ninth-place Calgary. With six games remaining, the Kings are one point behind sixth-place Detroit and three points ahead of eighth-place Colorado, which has one game in hand.

Kings lost against Wild 3-2

Before the game, Jonathan Bernier was called up from the AHL to serve as the backup goalie to Jonathan Quick, with Erik Ersberg suffering from a strained back. Matt Greene was back in the lineup, but Randy Jones was out.
The first period ended scoreless and the Kings outshot the Wild 6-5. In the second period Minnesota scored twice, first in the second minute an than 7:26 into the second period. Parse scored 8 minutes before the end of the period an adden one more in the second minute of the third period. In the eight minute of the third period, Havlat scored for Minnesota, the final result 3:2 for the Wild. Anze Kopitar skated for almost 20 minutes and had 3 shost on goal.

Stars beat Kings 4-1

In the previous five meetings the Kings allowed only one goal during 20 penalty kills. On a saturday night, infront of a sellout crowd at Staples center they allowed 4. In the first period the Kings scored on a PP, when Handzus knocked the rebound from the front of the net after Kopitar shot. In the second period they allowed three PP goals and later in the first minute of the third period, Dallas scored again with a man advantage. 4:1 was the final result. Anze Kopitar had almost 21 minutes of ice time, three shots on goal and won 67 percent of the faceoffs. He also had an assist on a Kings lone goal. He now has 76 points.

Blues 3; Kings 1

The Kings were back on the ice less than 24 hours after they earned a point in a tough game against the Colorado Avalanche.
This time they played against the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center. Quick was back in goal for the Kings. St. Louis took the lead 3:57 into the first period. Crombeen beat Quick with a wrist shot from the left circle. The Blues pushed their lead to 2-0 at the 1:06 mark of the second period, Oshie knocked the rebound past Kings goalie. In the third period Brown scored for the Kings on a PP. Than the Blues scored 5 minutes before the end of the game. The final result 3:1 for the Blues.

Colorado wins in SO

Just 48 hours after the game in Staples center Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings played a game in Pepsi Center in Colorado. In the first period Colorado had 5 PP, 18 shots and scored three goals. Los Angeles on the other hand had just 5 shots on goal, Kopitar scored his 33rd goal of the season. After the third goal Quick was replaced with Ersberg. In the second period there were no goals, the Kings finaly had a PP chance but could not score on Anderson. In the third, just 40 second in Doughty scored a PP goal to make it 3:2, and just a minute remaining in regulation Frolov tied the game at 3:3. The game went into OT and than into shotouts. Anderson made two saves and Colorado got two points. Anze Kopitar notched 2 points, goal and assist and skated for almost 21 minutes.

Kings burn Avs in OT4-3

Second win for the Kings this season against the Colorado Avalanche but they still have two games to play, the last one on april 11th. Both teams had just 21 shots on goal a piece and regulation ended 3:3. In the first period Stewart scored for Colorado and Smyth tied the game. In the second period Simmonds gave Kings the lead, but in the third Mueler scored to tie the game, than Smyth scored his second of the night for the Kings. When it all seemed the game was over, Galiardi scored just 6 seconds remaining in regulation. In the fourth minute of the OT, Doughty scored and Kings got two points. They are now tied with the Predators on fifth place in the Western conference. Anze Kopitar had two assists and played for 23 minutes.

Brad Richardson scored in the first period an Jonathan Quick stopped all 26 shots on goal for his fourth shotout of the season. The Kings got two points ant took another step torward their first playoff berth since 2002.
Richardson was prooted to top line and he skated with Kopitar, who had 3 shots on goal and Simmonds who had an assist on Richardsons goal. The Kings climbed over Colorado into sixth place in the Western Conference. They have a six-point lead over ninth-place Calgary with 10 games left.

Chicago beats Kings 3-0

The Los Angeles Kings sufferd a 3-0 loss to te Chicago Blackhawks.
First period was scoreless. In the second period Bouwer scored and in the third Kopecky scored twice as the Blackhawks improved to 3-0-1 against the Kings this season. Kings had just 17 shots on goal and the Blackhawks on the other hand 37. There are just 13 games remaining in the season and the Kings are still sixt in the west, six points clear of ninth-place Calgary with two games in hand over the Flames. Anze Kopitar skated for more than 20 minutes, had 4 shots on goal and won 75 percent of the faceoffs.

Nashville beats Kings 3-2

After two games on the road, the Kings were back at Staples center in LA. In the first five minutes of the game Nashville outshot the kings 6:0 and took the lead 4:42 into the game. Kopitar tied the game later in the period with a PP goal, his 32nd of the season. In the second period there were no goals and the Predators outshot the Kings again, this time 8:4, the Kings had just one shot in first 10 minutes of the period.
Dustin Brown scored 5:56 into the third period, but the lead lasted only 39 seconds, though. Than, just 3.31 remaining in the game, Hornqvist tucked it past Quick. Anze Kopitar scored his 32nd goal of the season, won 71 percent of the faceoffs and had 18.41. of ice time.

Kings beat Dallas 2-1 in shootout

Jonathan Bernier was called up from the AHL to start the game against the Dallas Stars. He made 29 saves and stopped all 6 SO attempts and was named the first star of the game. In the first period Modin redirected a shot/pass from Dustin Brown to make it 1:0. Second period was scoreless and in the third Morrow tied the game. In the SO both goalies denied 5 shoters, than Jarrett Stoll scored and earned the Kings two points.
Anze Kopitar had 23.20. of ice time, three shots on goal and won 50 percent of the faceoffs. The next game for Los Angeles is on sunday, march 14 against the Nashville Predators.

LA slips in OT

The Kings got one point out of two possible against one of the top teams in the NHL in a mid march game. In the first period the Blackhawks outshoted the Kings 12-5 and Patrik Sharp scored a lone goal. In the second Brown and Kopitar scored for Los Angeles but just minute and half later Versteeg tied the game at 2:2. Third period was scoreless and the game went into OT. Sharp beat Jonathan Quick who made 41 saves and ended the game in the third minute of OT. Anze Kopitar had a goal and assist and has now 70 points. The next game for the Kings is against the Dallas Stars on friday.

Kings top Blue Jackets 6-0

12 Los Angeles players recorded at least a point in a 6:0 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets before 17,524 at STAPLES Center monday night. Alexander Frolov had 4 points (1G, 3A) and Modin, who was acquired from the Blue Jackets before last week’s trade deadline had two (1G, 1A). The Kings outshot the Columbus 26-5 in the first two periods and scored all 6 goals. Quick stopped all 11 shots for his third shutout of the season and his seventh career shutout.
Anze Kopitar skated for almost 20 minutes, had 5 shots on goal and an assist on a goal by Handzus who made in 3:0 in the first period.

CBJ:

Montréal Canadiens 4, Los Angeles Kings 2

This was the Kings first home game since feb. 13., they lost 4-2 to the visiting Montreal Canadiens in front of a sellout crowd at STAPLES Center. Monreal scored just 22 second in to the game and Anze Kopitar tied the game less than 2 minutes before the end of the first period with a highlight-reel goal. The Canadiens scored twice, a third goal just 36 seconds into the third period. Modin scored his first goal for the LA Kings to cut the deficit to 3:2. Montreal scored an EN goal to make it 4:2.
Anze Kopitar played his 300th NHL career game and scored his 30th goal of the season. He played more than 21 minutes and had 6 shots on goal.

4-2 loss against Preds

Alexander Frolov gave Kings the lead in the first minute of the game, but the Predators scored three goals later in the game. Doughty scored a PP goal in the third to make it 3.2 but just 53 seconds before the end Smithson scored an EN goal to make it 4:2. The Kings played with a revamped fourth line with Halpern on the center position and Modin on his left wing and rookeie Parse on the right wing. They are still on the fourth place in the Western conference. 5-1 win after Olympic brake

The Kings just keep winning. Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots and set a Kings single-season goalie record with his 36th win of the season, Alexander Frolov scored a goal and added two assists and Drew Doughty had three assists in a 5:1 win over Dallas Stars.
After the first period the Kings were leading by a goal from Stoll, in the second period Frolov, Richardson and Smyth scored for Los Angeles and Anze Kopitar scored a PP goal just 7 seconds remaining in the third period to make it 5:1. Anze now has 65 points (29G, 36A) in just 62 games. The next game for the Kings is against the Nashwile Predators.

Kings won their last game before an olimpic break, 3:0 against the Colorado Avalanche. Before a a sellout crowd at Staples center, goalie Quick tied a franchise record– set by Mario Lessard in 1980-81 – with his 35th win of the season and got his second shotout of the season. Kopitar, Moller and Richardson scored for Los Angeles. The first period ended scoreles in the second Brad Richardson tipped the puck past Craig Anderson on a shot by Scuderi in the third Kopitar scored a nice goal over Anderson shoulder with Smyth infront and Moller made it 3:0 at the 7.02 mark. The Kings are now in fifth place in the Western Conference with 78 points in 61 games. The next game for them will be after the olimpics against the Dallas Stars on March 2.

Oilers beat Kings 3-2 in shootout

Another slow start for the Kings who were 2 goals behind less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. Than Brown and Smyth scored in the third to make it 2:2. In the longest shootout in Kings history, Oilers goalie Jeff Deslauriers stopped Alexander Frolov in the 10th round, and then ex King Lubomir Visnovksy beat Kings goalie Erik Ersberg. The game ended 3:2 for the Oilers. Anze Kopitar assisted on a goal by Smyth late in the third and scored in the SO. This was second straight loss for the Kings after a nine game winning streak. The next game is on saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Ducks ended Los Angeles Kings' winning streak with a 4:2 win at Honda Center in Anaheim. Moller and Kopitar scored for the Kings and Quick made 29 saves. In the first period we saw a goal on each side, in the second the Ducks scored three and kings one and the third period ended scoreless. Anze Kopitar had 8 shots, one goal and now has 62 points. Kings Win Franchise Record Ninth Straight

After the first period Kings were behind 3 goals. Zetterberg scored two and Filppula added one in the first 20 minutes of the game. Just 2 minutes and 21 seconds before the end Handzus scored his second of the night and Kings won their ninght game in a row- a new franchise record. The Kings have tied the franchise record with eight consecutive victories, a level previously reached during the 1991-92 and 1972-73, and they have also moved ahead of Phoenix and into fourth place in the Western Conference with 25 games remaining. In the first period Kopitar scored for LA and Blake for Anaheim. Than Kings scored three goals in a row, but the Ducks came back with three goals and the game was tied just 10 minutes before the regulation. 7 straight wins for Los Angeles, this time against the New York Rangers .The Kings are on their longest winning streak since early 1992, when Wayne Gretzky's Kings won a franchise-record eight straight. There were no goal in first 20 minutes. In the second period Ane Kopitar scored for the Kings, Ryan Smyth made it 2:0 in the third and Gaborik scored the lone goal for the Rangers 2 and half minutes before the end. Win against Devils

Kings finish their perfect road-trip with 5-0-0 record topping Devils 3:2. Less than two minutes before the end of the game, the Devils were leading by a goal. Wayne Simmonds scored for LA just 1,47 remaining in the third period and Doughty scored a GW goal just 27 seconds before the end of the game. Kings won their fifth strait game. They beat the Bruins 3:2 in the SO. Star of the game with two points Anze Kopitar. He assisted on a PP goal scored by Brown in the first period, than tied the game with a PP goal in the third. Anze also beat goalie Thomas in the SO. The Kings were leading after first period, in the second and third Boston scored to make it 2:1 and Kopitar tied the game in the fifth minute of the third period. Jarret Stoll scored in the sixt round of the SO and Kings won. Tonight they are playing against the New Jersey Devils, than they are heading back home.

Kopi scores two for Kings' fourth straight win

Road trip took Kings to Columbus to face Jackets. Nash & Co. had to admit that L.A. was a better team all through the game. They have controlled the development of the score and with fast and dynamic play-by-play over-run Jackets.
Anze scored two goals and he reached another important milestone – his 100th goal. This season he is @ 53 points out of 53 games and that puts him on 16th place in the NHL. Kings hold their 6th place and are getting closer and closer to Colorado trailing them by 3 points.

This was their second game on a five game road trip. They were playing against the Toronto Maple Leafs and won 5:3. Dustin Brown had three assist in the game and Doughty had a goal and an assist. Kings win their first game at the start of a five game road trip, saturday night in Joe Luis arena against the Detroit Red Wings. After the first period the Kings were two behind, in the second Kopitar scored for LA and in the third Kings scored twice. That was just the third win in 25 matches over Detroit. The last match betwen DET and LAK was on jan. 7 is Staples center, when kings had 52 shots on goal but lost the game on a last-minute goal.
Anze Kopitar had three points in tonights game (1G, 2A), as he was named a first star of the game. He also had 8 shots on goal and won 6 faceoffs for the Kings.

The Kings took a first period lead by a goal from Richardson in the second guests scored in the first and tenth minute, but Kings tied it in the last minute. Kings beat Bruins 4-3 in shootout

Kings took an early lead in first period by a goal from Stoll, but then Bruins tied the game at 1:1 in the first and scored two more goals in the second period. Jonathan Quick stopped both Boston shooters he faced, and Kopitar and Brown scored in the shootouts so the Kings won two points.

The Kings and Ducks weren't just playing for Southern California pride, they were playing for a playoff spot. The Ducks entered the game riding a five-game winning streak, and had pulled within four points of the Kings, who had lost three games in a row and seven of 10. Quick got his first shotout of the season and fifth of his career. Handzus scored a goal in the first period and Parse, Brown and Simmonds scored in the second. The Kings lost second time in a row, this time against the St. Louis Blues 4:3 before a sellout crowd at STAPLES Center. Brendon Segal scored his first NHL goal, to tie the game in the second period. Blues scored twice in the third period to make it a three goal game, and kings replaced Quick with Ersberg. Brown and Kopitar scored third period goals for the Kings to make it a one-goal game in the final 4 minutes. Anze skated for almost 20 minutes and half and had three shots on goal.

The Kings did everything they could to put a puck past Detroit goalie Howard. 52 shots on goal and a lone goal on their last shot 4.22. remaining in the third period. It was a PP goal by Smyth, who tied the game at 1:1. But just 17 seconds before the end Helm scored a second goal for Detroit for a 2-1 victory over the Kings before a sellout crowd Thursday night at Staples center. Anze Kopitar had 8 shots on goal and played for 22 minutes. Next game for the kings is against the St. Luis Blues on Saturday.

Kings win in Shark-Tank

Sharks hosted Kings as the season moves into second half. Kings had gained a lead of 6-0 and kept it untill the end, winning the game 6-2.The Los Angeles Kings brought the San Jose Sharks' eight-game winning streak to a resounding end Monday night. 6 diferent players scored for the Kings and Doughty assisted on four goals. Quick made 45 saves as the Kings had had "just" 20 shots on goal. Nabokov for the Sharks stopped just 11 shots from16 and he was replaced before the third period. Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist in the game and now has already 42 points.

Kings defeat Wild 5-2

On the last day of the year the Kings were playing in Minnesota and won the game 5:2. They scored three goals in the first period and Handzus made it 4:0 in the second. Minnesota came back and scored two goals, but Frolov scored his second of the night, an empty net goal. Anze Kopitar skated for 20 minutes and 44 second, had 1 shot on goal, but no points. He still has 39 points (16G, 23A)

Flames defeat Kings 2:1

This was fourth an final meeting of the two teams this season and a third win for Calgary. Flames won again 2:1 like on december 17.
The game was really rough and in the sixt minute Phaneuf hit Kopitar in the Calgary zone and sent him flying into the boards, drawing a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. Sean O'Donnell came to Kopitar's defense. After the whole incident they were playing 4 on 4 and Calgary scored at 6:21 mark. The game got only more heated from there and in it's first 12 minutes featured 57 minutes worth of penalties. This is the fourth straight loss for the Kings, the longest loosing streak this season. Anze Kopitar played for 19 minutes and 35 second, twice took a shot on kirpusoff but had no points in the game.

In more than two weeks the Kings were back at Staples center for their last home game of the season. They lost against Minnesota Wild 4:3. First period ended 0:0 in the second we saw 4 goals, 3 of them by Wild and in the third Los Angeles tied the game at 3:3 by a goal from Parse. Minnesota's Eric Belanger scored his second goal of the game 12 seconds later. Anze Kopitar spent 22 minutes on the ice, had two shots on goal but no points.

Coyotes win over Kings

First game after long Christmas brake took Kings to Phoenix where they faced Coyotes. Kings took the lead early in first, but Coyotes came back three minutes later and added another one to make it two to one at six minutes to go in the first period. After scoreles second period Kings tied it on the power play goal by Handzus. Few minutes later Coyotes regained their lead. As the game was closing in, Kings got two men advantage, but Bryzgalov shot down all of their shots.
Next Kings game is on Monday, where Kings will host Wild at Steples Center.

Anze in the third place...

The Slovene Sports Reporter Association has given its annual Sportsman of the year award for 2009 to Primož Kozmus who won gold at the Beijing Olympics and World Championship gold medal in Berlin. The runner up is the kayaker Peter Krauzer and third place has been given to Anže, who keeps hockey fans at home in Slovenia and around the world, excited. At the age of 22, Anže is already making history not only of Slovene but also of the world hockey, as he is considered to be one of the best players in the world. His role as the heart of the city of angels team has earned him tremendous respect and reputation in hockey which continue to grow with each performance.
As Wayne Gretzky said ,"this guy is a horse, plays the game the right way, plays hard every shift, a wonderful young man, and I think he has an outstanding future". Right now he continues his career in the NHL big style. This year the Kings might even make it to the playoff. Congratulations Anže!

In 1996 L.A. Lakers acquired Kobe Bryant and he was a center-core of Lakers rebirth. Kobe brought back the shine of yellow & purple. City went crazy and the madness continues through the past decade. Kobe is The Ultimate Superstar and it seemed there is not a soul that would ever come close. In 2005 L.A. Kings drafted Kopi. With his talent and hard work he became a center-core of Kings. And Kopi is leading Kings back to the top of the league. It took Kobe five seasons to achieve the ultimate goal, it’s Kopi’s fourth in the city, does that mean… Let’s wait what develops, let’s believe!

Flames 2, Kings 1

The Kings ended their third road tripp of the season with a loss against the Calgary Flames. Elkins scored the lone goal for Los Angeles, his first goal in the NHL career. The Kings had couple of nice chances in the third period, special on the PP but Flames had Kirpussov who made 34 saves in the game. Anze Kopitar played almost 24 minutes, won 60 percent of the faceoffs and had 6 shots on goal.

Kings win over Oilers 3:2

After a loss yesterday in Vancouver the Kings played against Edmonton tonight and won the game 3:2. First period ended 1:0 for the Kings, the second and third were tied at 1:1.Richardson, Brown and O Donnell scored for Los Angeles. Sean the veteran defensman scored his first goal in 157 games and gave the Kings another two points. Anze Kopitar was held of the score boards and remains with 38 points. On thursday they are playing against the Calgary Flames.

Canucks defeat kings 3:1

Los Angeles Kings started another road trip. They are playing three games in Canada and the first game was against the Canucks. Infront of a soldot crowd in General Motors Place the game ended 3:1 in favor of the hosts from Vancouver. First period ended 2:1 in the second there was no goal and just five minutes before the end of the game, the Canucks scored again. Anze Kopitar assisted on a lone goal for the Kings, scored by Frolov in the first period. The Kings are heading to Edmonton to play against the red hot oilers tomorrow.

Kings beat Stars 3-2 in shootout

For the third time in last four games the Kings went beyond regulation and beat Dallas Stars 3:2 in a SO before soldout staples center.
Michal handzus scored in the fourth round of the SO. Frolov tied the game early in the second period and Kopitar tied it at 2:2 just eight seconds before the end of the second period. Anze skated for almost 23 minutes tonight, won 47 percent of the faceoffs and had 9 shots on goal.

After SO Kings win again

The Kings won the game after SO with 3:2. After the regulation the game was tied at 2:2 and there was no goal in the OT.

After the first period the Sharks were leading 2:1 but in the second period kings scored three goals and San Jose scored once. Calgary Flames were red hot on their longest road tripp of the season. They won their last game in San Jose 2:1 but this time, the Staples center stayed unbeaten. Los Angeles Kings won 2:1, by goals from Parse and Stoll. Quick made 26 saves, 10 more than Kirpussov of the Flames. Anze Kopitar skated for almost 20 minutes, had 9 shots, two were blocked, five of them missed the target and two of them were stoped by Calgary Flames goaltender.

Blues won the game 5:4 in shootout

After first two periods the game was tied at 2:2. In the third, the Kings took a brief 3-2 lead, but than Paul Kariya scored two goals and the result was 4:3 for the Blues. In the last minutes of the game Kings goalie Quick was pulled of the ice and the sixt man for the Kings was Anze Kopitar. He made a nice pass to Doughty who shot the puck, Mason made the save, Frolov was there to pick up the rebound and scored to tie the game at 4:4. Blues scored twice in the shootouts and the final result... 5:4 for the St. Blues.

The Los Angeles kings beat Ottawa Senators 6:3. Altough the Senators had more shots on goal, the Kings scored 6 times. In the third period they had just 7 shots on goal but Justin Williams scored twice. Anze Kopitar added an assist to his stats, he spent 21 minutes and 37 second on the ice and had 2 shots on goal. The next game for the Kings is on saturday against the St. Louis Blues.

After the win yesterday in Edmonton, the Kings played in Vancouver against the Canucks infront of a sellout crowd at General Motors Place and lost the game 4:1. After the first period the Canucks were leading by a goal. In the final minutes of the second period Simmonds scored to tie the game at 1:1. Vancouver scored three more goals in the final period, the last one was an empty net goal. Anze Kopitar spent 21,15 minutes on the ice, had 4 shots on goal but his statistics stayed the same. Kings win in Edmonton

Kings defeated Edmonton 3-1. Simmonds, Greene and Frolov scored in tied game.
Oilers took a lead at the end of first period. Simmonds scored an equilizer in beggining of second. Greene scored a game winner five minutes beforeth efinal buzzer and Fro confirmed it with an empty net goal.
Kings are playing their next back-to-back game tomrrow in Vancouver.

Kings2. Calgary 5

Calgary Flames won 5:2 over the Los Angeles Kings. Star of the game was Flames captain Jerome Iginla who scored a goal in each period of the game. Anze Kopitar assisted on a goal by Frolov who gave Kings the lead in second period. Kopi now has 33 points in 24 games and is still the leading scorer in the NHL. The next game for the Kings is in Edmonton against the oilers.

Los Angeles Kings 2, Philadelphia Flyers 3

The Kings had more shots on goal (39-20) but Philadelphia won 3:2 in Staples center. After the first period the Kings were leading by a goal, in the second period the Flyers scored twice. In the third period both teams scored a goal, so the final result 3:2 for the Flyers. Last seconds Los Angeles played with 6 men on the ice and without a goalie, they had a couple nice opportuneties, especialy 8 seconds before the end of the game when Michal Handzus tip in front of Boucher skittered under the goalie and missed the post by perhaps an inch.. Anze Kopitar who played without injured Smyth (replaced by Frolov) had 6 shots on goal. He still leads the NHL scoring with 32 points. (18A, 14G).

Kings won again after shootout

The Kings won again after shootout, this time against the Florida panthers with 4:3 and are heading home to Los Angeles. First period ended scoreless, after the second, the Panters were leading by 2:1, the third period ended with a 3:3 result. Jonathan Quick made three saves in the SO and Jack Johnson scored for the Kings. Anze Kopitar made a nice cross-ice pass to Stoll, that was his 18. assist of the season. He also had three shots on goal and was on the ice almost 24 minutes and half. He is still the leadig scorer of the NHL with 32 points. The Los Angeles Kings ended their second road trip with two wins and two loses and are heading home to staples center.

Kings win 2:1

The Kings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2:1 in a SO Saturday night. Drew Doughty scored in the third period to give LA the lead but Ryan Malone tied the game later on. Anze Kopitar assisted on the goal by Doughty and scored a goal in the shootout. The next game for the Kings is on monday at Florida Panthers.

Kings fall to Trashers... 7:0

The Kings had more shots on goal but Trashers won 7:0. After scoreles first period Atlanta won the second by 4:0 and than added three more in the third. The stars of the game, Maxim Afinogenov and Ilya kovalchuk, both with 4 points in the game. (2G, 2A). Anze Kopitar had 4 shots on goal but didnt managed to get a point. After 20 games he is leading the NHL with 30 points.

Kings win 5:2

After strong first period The kings were leading 1:0, by a powerplay goal from Smyth. In the second period Stoll scored for a 2:0 lead, But Carolina came back by a goal from Ruttu. In the third period Ruttu scored again and the game was tied at 2:2. The Los Angeles Kings than scored three more goals and won the game by 5:2. 5 different Kings scored in the game. Anze Kopitar played for almost 22 minutes and half, had 1 shot on goal and added 2 assists in his statistics.. Now he already has 30 points and still leads the NHL scoring. Next game for the Kings is on friday against the Trashers.

Another loss for the Kings

First period ended scoreless, and at the end of the second period the game was tied at 1:1. Than came the third period and three goals by the Blackhawks; 2PP goals and one on even strenght. The Kings were outshooted by their oponents from Chicago by 29 - 18. Anze Kopitar scored the only goal for the Kings, assisted by Doughty and Williams. The next game for the kings is in Carolina against the hurricanes.

Predators 3, Kings 1

First period ended scoreless with only 14 shots on goal (Kings 8, Predators 6). In the second period Nashville scored the powerplay goal by Francis Bouillon, his first of the season. The kings started the third period strongly, creating chances but the guests scored again. Jarret Stoll scored the only goal for the home team, assisted by Brown and Kopitar, but after just minute and twenty seconds, Predators scored again. The final score: 3:1 for Nasville Predators. Anze Kopitar now has 27 points (13G, 14A) in just 17 games and still leads NHL scoring.

Kings beat champions 5:2

Sold out Staples Center and a great third period by the Kings were too much for the Stanley cup champions. Star of the night "again" Anze Kopitar with two goals. KOPI now has already 26 points (13G, 13A) in just 16 games. The Kings won their 10th game this season and now have 22 points, enough for the second place in the pacific divison.

RAZOR'S EDGE: THE NEW KING OF LOS ANGELES

TSN Canada one of most is giving recognition to progress of Los Angeles Kings & Anže Kopitar. Here is a nice piece written by Ray Ferraro;

With only one playoff appearance in the last six seasons, the Los Angeles Kings have been accused of selling hope, and nothing else. Their greatest treasures come from the past -- the Triple Crown Line, Wayne Gretzky, Kelly Hrudey and Luc Robitaille. But now they have someone of substance as the face of their franchise - the league's most unknown star Anze Kopitar.

How unknown? Watch highlights and hear the announcers call him An-zee.... it's Ahn-jay actually guys.

Now in his 4th year, Kopitar is giving the league no choice but to notice. Tied for second in the league in points (with Patrick Marleau), the 22-year-old Slovenian will be the best player in the world not playing in the Olympics. The Kings challenged Kopitar to take the next step after last season, to go from good to great, and the affable Kopitar has responded.

He's in the best shape of his career, stronger than he has ever been and now able to handle 20-plus minutes a night. Kopitar aspires to be talked about in the same grouping as Crosby, Malkin and Ovechkin. When I spoke to him this week, I was impressed with his desire to be in that grouping, but also with how humble and team oriented he is. Some guys talk the talk, but you know it's just routine to them, with Kopitar, I saw a kid who likes the responsibility that goes with his stature, but understands it's not about only him. He was part of a group of Kings who stayed in L.A. during July to train together. The group feels that doing so has helped them grow tighter after a pretty good late season run last year.

Ryan Smyth has played with some pretty impressive centers in his career and while he won't compare Kopitar to the others, he talks about how unique his teammate is. His great size (6'4" and 220lbs), speed and excellent vision all impress Smyth, but the ability to not let the play die on his stick (always looking to make the next pass, showing no panic) stands out. A revitalized Smyth has had immediate chemistry with Kopitar, and has been a nice veteran add to a very young core group.

When you are watching the Kings, look closely at Kopitar, you are watching a star. And his name is Ahn-jay Kopitar.

Kings overcome Phoenix hurdle

Kings keep on proving that they have a new face this season. After two loses they went to Phoenix Coyotes that have been one of the most difficult teams to beat in the past seasons. In the last period of the game Kings came from behind and scored three goals that sealed their win over Coyotes 5-3.
Anze had another multi-point game with a goal and three assists and that has pushed him back on top of NHL scoring leaders. Kings are still keeping their record above .500 mark with their current result 9-4-2, holding fourth spot in NHL and in the Western conference.

Canucks beat Kings 2-1 in shootout

The Kings outshooted their aponents from Vancouver with 31-15 but the Canucks had Raycroft. Scott Parse with his first NHL goal gave Los Angeles the lead in the first period, but Mikael Samuelsson tied the game and scored also in the SO. Anze Kopitar had a lot of ice time (23 minutes and 12 seconds), 2 shoots on goal but his statistics remained empty. The next game for the Kings is in Phoenix against Coyotes on november 2.

Sharks beat the Kings 2:1 (SO)

Alexander Frolov scored for the Kings in second period, and Patrik Marleau tied the game at 14.32. Kings outshooted the Sharks in first period by 13-5 and in the second everithing reversed in favor for the hosts who outshooted the guests from Los Angeles by 14-6.
Anze Kopitar spent 26 and a half minutes on ice, had 5 shoots on goal but there was no points for him in this game. He still leads the NHL scoring with 21 (10G, 11A). The next game is on thursday, october 29. in staples center against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Kings win fourth straight game

Great team effort by the los Angeles Kings and another win, this time against the Columbus Blue Jackets by 6:2. 9 different players had at least a point in the game, star of the night.. again ANZE KOPITAR with two goals. He still leads the NHL scoring with 21 points (10G, 11A). Alexander Frolov scored two goals with the second line and Jarett Stoll had a goal and an assist. The next game for the kings is in San Jose against the Sharks.

Anze Kopitar named no 1 star of the week

Anze Kopitar led all scorers last week with 9 points in just 4 games. He scored the first goal in Kings last game of their longest trip of the season against Dallas Stars, than on october 19. he recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-4 overtime win in Staples center against Dallas Stars. He continued with three assists in a 5-3 win against the Phoenix Coyotes and scored two more goals in a home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets... Kopitar, who in 2008-09 became the first Kings player since Luc Robitaille to tally at least 20 goals in each of his first three NHL seasons, is on track for career year. The 22-year-old Slovenia native leads the League in goals (10) and points (21) in 12 games. The fans in Los Angeles and back home in Slovenija are in great anticipation before the next games... HAT OFF to ANZE KOPITAR!

Kings win in Phoenix 5:3

Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll both had two goals and Anze Kopitar had three assists in the game. "KOPI" is now the leading scorrer in NHL with 19 points in just 11 games (8G, 11A) The Coyotes outshooted the Kings by 33 to 21 but Jonathan Quick made 30 saves and Los Angeles Kings win over Phoenix Coyotes by 5:3.

Anze Kopitar scored his first NHL HAT TRICK in the first 30 minutes of the game!!! After 10 games Anze has 16 points (8G, 8A). The Kings already had a 3 goal lead but Dallas Stars have tied the game in the third period at 4:4...

The Kings ended their six game road trip with a 4:1 win against the Dallas Stars. Ryan Smyth had two assists and a powerplay goal for the Kings who outshooted the Stars in second period by 18:5. Anze Kopitar played almost 22 minutes and has scored his 5th goal of the season.

The Kings lost to the Detroit red wings 5:2. After strong first period they had the lead by a goal from Dustin Brown, his first of the season. Although they had more shots on goal in first and the second period, the third period belonged to the Red Wings. Nicklas Lidstrom reached 1000th point in his career. Anze Kopitar assisted on Kings second goal by Williams, that was his 7th assist of the season.

Kings win in Kansas City

Kings headed out to Kansas City to host New York Islanders. A physical game full of fights ended up with Kings toping Islanders 4-2. As a result of on-ice incident Sean O'Donnell received a suspension for remaining of the season and two regular season games.
